What is this website all about?

This website is for those who enjoy writing stories. Weekly a story starter or two will be posted on the companion FaceBook page. You do not have to be a member of our Facebook group to participate, but it helps if you want to have all the up-to-date information and participate in peer editing. We will repost the starters here on the website, too. Once a month, on the first or second day of the month, we will have a topic for a short story contest. The deadline for each contest will be the last day of the month. Submissions can be emailed to monthlycontest@plumeinthestone.com. Judges will read and choose a winning story, which will be posted here on this website. A small prize will be awarded to the winner of the contest.
Contest Rules:
All entries must be sent out by midnight on the last day of the month. All entries must be family friendly (G or PG rated).Entries cannot endorse any type of discrimination. All entries must be your own work. (You can participate in the peer editing in the FaceBook group, but you can't use someone else's idea from there.)You may use the story starters if they fit in the monthly contest topic.

A few words from the page administrators:

Writing allows us to bring our imaginations to life. With the power of words, we can take people on grand adventures one page at a time. It allows us to peer into the power granted to gods; the power to create a universe. I hadn't always enjoyed reading and writing. I had struggled to learn to read as a child, and was always so embarrassed when my teacher would randomly call on me to read to the class. It wasn't until I encountered an English teacher who truly encouraged me to pick up a book and read myself. Giving it a chance and facing my fear of the written word, I had found that I desired to create my own thrilling adventures for people to enjoy. I'd started writing little short stories. Ones that I had never wanted to let other people read because I didn't think they were worthy of being shared. It wasn't until I joined a writing group and started posting my stories so that others could judge them, that I found I wasn't the worst person to put pen to paper out there. I enjoyed the input my peers offered me , because it allowed me to grow my skills. I was eager to share my creative side from that point on and I owe it all to the power of the word. I'm eager to continue to grow this wonderful gift one sentence at a time. Happy writings everyone!

Many years ago I loved writing. I had several manuscripts ready for editing. Unfortunately, when my home was remodeled all of my work was thrown out without my permission. I cannot describe the emptiness that I felt from losing them. Since that time I've been unable to write more than a few words at a time. This website and FaceBook group is my attempt at getting back to doing one of the things that I loved. I hope to re-catch the excitement I used to feel as I poured my thoughts out on an empty page. I loved the magic of words tumbling over each other to fight for their places in the stories.

I'm sure seeing others' works will help inspire me to pick up my pencil and paper once again, and regain that feeling of enjoyment that I used to possess.
